Do you want to ride across the mountains, climb peaks overlooking Rondane and Dovrefjell, cross the rivers and follow beautiful trails through the birch forest, along with Norway's oldest family business?
Then mountain riding on icelandic horses is something for you. All tours are adapted to experience and age. On Saturdays you can join the musk ox kingdom and look for musk ox, wild reindeer and horses. A day trip is beautiful, but if you really love the place, there are good opportunities to extend your stay several days. If you want trips over several days, you can stay at Hjerkinn Fjellstue, an idyllic wooden hotel in the middle of Dovrefjell.
This is what you need
There are tours for beginners and experienced riders, children and adults. Age limit with parents is 10 years. Each day, they divide groups into smaller groups adapted to experience and speed so that everyone gets a nice trip. As the icelandic horses are relatively small, they tolerate a maximum weight of 95 kilos.
On the ride you need something to drink and eat, warm shoes and comfortable riding clothes, woolen sweaters, hat and gloves. Rainwear can be smart, also windproof clothes and lighter clothes. You can borrow riding helmet and ointment bag from Hjerkinn Fjellstue.
