By the lake Atnsjøen lies Sohlberg Square, or Sohlbergplassen, which must be Norway's most beautiful rest area. At the site there is a view platform that swings between the slender pine trees.
The platform intersects the view of the sea and the mountains of Rondane and provides a magnificent view, it is designed in a way that makes it look like it floats across the terrain. The viewpoint was designed by architect Carl-Viggo Hølmebakk and opened in 2006.
From this area, Harald Sohlberg painted the famous painting "Winter Night in the Mountains" (original “vinternatt i fjellene”), and the architect Hølmebakk wanted to create a place along the road where the experience of Rondane was recreated. Sohlberg square has been named one of Norway's most important construction after the war, and has received several awards for good design and material use. Take a pit stop here!
